New Releases from Nils Wogram, Nils Landgren, and Robert Edwards

It's a good week for the jazz trombone world: three new releases come out this week from a trio of fabulous trombone players, Nils Wogram, Nils Landgren, and Robert Edwards. So if you're looking for what's cooking in today's trombone landscape, here's a few places to start:

  • Nils Wogram and Nostalgia
    "Sturm und Drang"

I've long been impressed with the playing of Nils Wogram, so I was quite excited to hear of a new recording by him and his group, Nostalgia, with Florian Ross on organ and Dejan Terzic on drums. In addition to the great vibe from the rhythm section, Nils Wogram's playing is simply fantastic, as are the compositions on the album. Take a listen for yourself in the video sample below...

  • Nils Landgren
"The Moon, The Stars and You"

Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren and his Funk Unit have been putting out some impressive -- and not to mention groovy -- recordings in recent years, but his latest endeavor features a program of "moon" and "star" and "you" themed and titled tunes, with very lush string arrangements. You can watch an EPK for the new album below...

  • Robert Edwards
    "Sound Business"

Robert Edwards is a young trombonist best known for his work with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars and the Roy Hargrove Big Band. For his first release, Robert Edwards is joined by Keyon Harrold, Michael Dease, Alex Nguyen, Zaccai Curtis, Linda Oh, and Mark Whitfield, Jr. in a series of originals along with Cedar Walton's "Firm Roots" and the classic ballad, "Body and Soul".

We'll do our best to keep you posted on what else is coming out, when it's coming out, and how to get it -- all the album title links and covers will take you to audio clips of the recordings, so you can check them out for yourself. Enjoy!
